NormaTec compression therapy was created by a physician bioengineer (MD, PhD). It combines controlled pressure with pulse massage patterns to increase blood flow in your legs and improve blood flow to the heart while supporting your veins and decreasing edema (swelling). These techniques have been proven to help relieve muscle aches and/or pains and temporarily increase circulation for increased flexibility and range of motion, injury prevention, and accelerated healing and recovery time.
Who can benefit from NormaTec compression therapy?
NormaTec compression therapy benefits both athletes and non-athletes. For non-athletes (including people on their feet most of the day at work), it is used to help with chronic circulation issues due to injury, surgery, weight gain, blood clots or long periods without movement, including fixed standing. Athletes use it to rehab from injuries and for accelerated recovery from workouts and increased athletic performance.
How does NormaTec compression therapy work?
NormaTec compression therapy does not use ice, instead it first molds to your body shape, then compresses your feet, hands or upper quads, before working its way up your limb compressing and releasing in a pulsing manner that feels almost like a manual deep-tissue massage.
What should I wear for my NormaTec compression therapy session?
The compression suit and boot attachments fit comfortably over your clothes. So, you just need to wear the same type of comfortable clothing you would wear for a physical therapy appointment.
How long are the treatment sessions?
Treatment sessions are typically 20 to 30 minutes long but can be as short as 10 minutes or as long as 60 minutes.
Benefits of NormaTec compression therapy include:
- Reduced swelling and inflammation
- Improved circulation
- Reduced accumulation of water, lymphatic fluids and lactic acids
- Removes toxins from your muscles
- Enhances flexibility and range of motion (ROM)
